Den Hague

Had a lovely time in Den Haag.  Met a Girl with a Pearl Earring and a Goldfinch (at the Mauritshuis). We enjoyed a coffee at a new coffee shop/library on Noordeinde. So cool it doesn’t have a name . . .yet!

Enjoyed sketching the interior. Loved the colourful orning, lighting, 60’s record player and old school side tables and arm chairs. Unfortunately became so engrossed in my drawing that my coffee went cold. (not the first time nor the last!)

Travellers on the ferry

Over the festive period I travelled on the ferry from Dunkirk to Dover. I generally enjoy the crossings as I find it relaxing and sometimes get the opportunity to sketch the passengers. On this occasion it was quite rough! Sketching was a welcome distraction.

A man stretched out next to me which initially I found quite irritating. Who wants a strangers stinky feet next to you! But then I took the opportunity to draw as he was fast asleep.

Baby time

Happy New Year!

It’s been a busy time over the past 6 months. I’ve had my hands full with my daughter, Olivia. When she lets me I squeeze in a few drawings. Babies (and cats) aren’t good at keeping still but it’s fun trying to draw them.

Eastbourne

Glorious day in Eastbourne yesterday. I visited the Towner gallery and saw the exhibition – A Radical View: William Gear as curator 1958-64. Wonderful paintings and prints on display from well known and less celebrated British artists selected by the painter William Gear. Particularly eye catching (for me) were Harold Mockford and Julian Trevelyan’s landscape paintings and Michael Rothenstein’s Cockerel print. It’s free and well worth visiting.

I also took the opportunity to drop off my cards at the Towner Gallery shop. I will have a new tennis card available at the Towner Gallery in time for the Eastbourne Tennis Championships commencing on June 20th so watch this space!

As the weather was so sunny I took a stroll along the seafront and promenade. Got my collapsible stool out, listened to music and had a sketch. I’ve bought some new Liquitex paint pens and experimented with stronger colour.

Farmyard animals

I enjoy visiting Raystede animal sanctuary and Middle Farm near Lewes to draw the animals and sometimes the visitors. I must admit geese can be quite scary when they hiss but I do my best to be inconspicuous. They all seem to have their own personalities which I try to show in the drawings.

Devon

Spent a lovely few days in Devon. For most of my stay the weather was really good. Stayed in farm houses and enjoyed full English breakfasts most days. Missing them already! Beautiful countryside.  Visited Exeter on the only rainy day but took the opportunity to have a coffee, draw the stunning cathedral, surrounding buildings and countryside.   Lots of driving around winding roads. Stopped off in Lyme Regis, Beer, Branscombe, Topsham, Exmouth, Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe.
