New prints

April 12th, 2013

I often like working on a few prints at a time. I appear to worry less and not get too bogged down if they don’t work out as anticipated. Here’s a linocut of a view towards the Empire State building. When I visited New York, I did a few sketches at the top of the Rock. I really enjoyed the view and watching people looking out at the Manhattan skyline. I particularly liked it here as there weren’t so many people and I had room to sketch (unlike the Empire State Building!).

The print (below) is based on drawings I made in Camden (walking towards primrose hill). I had to feature the friendly blackbird who kept me company whilst I was sketching.

Here’s a new lino print I’ve created in 7 colours.

Soho Square, London

June 10th, 2011

I’ve been meaning to update my blog but freelance work has taken over. A week or so ago I had a lovely time visiting a very crowded and excellent Miro exhibition at the Tate Modern and then relaxing with a beer in soho square. It was fun chatting, drinking and putting pastel to paper.

Kings Cross

March 31st, 2011

I had a meeting on thursday morning in Kings Cross. Afterwards stopped off for a drink and sketched view outside cafe window. Then moved on to the newly renovated St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. It will be open to the public in May so I’ll visit again then. I did a quick sketch of the view towards the station and walked to the tube.

Boat on the Embankment

January 23rd, 2011

I’ve just finished a screenprint at the Ink Spot Press, Brighton. The print is based on a sketch I did whilst on the Embankment, London. I printed 4 colours on Somerset newsprint paper.

Borough Market

July 31st, 2010

I enjoy visiting Borough market throughout the year. It’s impossible to visit without sampling food from at least one of the stalls. I generally can’t resist queuing up for a burger. There’s a great atmosphere as well as wonderful food and drink. It does get touristy but jostling through the crowds is all part of the experience. I’ve done a number of sketches here including bigger drawings that can be seen in the ‘Drawings’ section of my website. Whilst I was doing one of my larger drawings, an elderly lady came and sat next to me on a bench and gave me advice on how to use light. I don’t think she was overly impressed with my efforts!
