Spent a lovely few days in Devon. For most of my stay the weather was really good. Stayed in farm houses and enjoyed full English breakfasts most days. Missing them already! Beautiful countryside. Visited Exeter on the only rainy day but took the opportunity to have a coffee, draw the stunning cathedral, surrounding buildings and countryside. Lots of driving around winding roads. Stopped off in Lyme Regis, Beer, Branscombe, Topsham, Exmouth, Totnes, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge and Salcombe.
Visited Hastings and I stopped off and sat in Warrior Square gardens. I enjoyed drawing the surrounding buildings and gardeners with the Church of St Mary Magdelene in the background.
A lady turned up with bird feed and in seconds I tried to capture the seagull frenzy!
After visiting the Jerwood gallery and dropping off my cards, I saw the wonderful Scottish Art exhibition including paintings by Anne Redpath and John Bellany. I’ve been a fan of their work since studying at Edinburgh College of Art. There is also a great Edward Burra exhibition of showing his watercolours inspired by Rye and Hastings.
It was a lovely day so I took a walk into the old town and did some more sketching. St Clements Church looked very picturesque. A friendly passer by stopped to have a chat and it turned out she was from Leiden in the Netherlands!
