I’ve been proofing a new cafe scene. I’ve printed a few cafe interiors but I felt I really wanted to do a larger linocut of my favourite Amsterdam cafe. I’ve spent many hours here chatting, drinking and eating cake. I love the central wall with all the colourful posters.
Normally I’m so preoccupied with what I’m doing inside the studio that I don’t stop to look at what’s going on outside. There’s actually lots to see in the courtyard. A wonderful selection of garden furniture for sale and it’s interesting watching visitors to the Buttercup cafe and Pastorale Antiques. I don’t know why I hadn’t sketched the view before!
It’s that time of year again. The Brighton festival seems to come around so quickly! The Brighton Open Houses runs for the four weekends in May starting on Saturday (4th May). I’ll be showing a selection of prints and cards at The Gloobaah House which is part of the Dyke Road Trail. In addition to my work, there will be paintings, textiles, ceramics, photography and wire work by other local artists. Feel free to visit, browse the art and there will also be refreshments and cake to tempt you!
