New York Hotel, Rotterdam

Spent Sunday in Rotterdam. Last time I was here I didn’t make it across the Erasmus bridge due to high winds and lack of time. Great to have the afternoon to explore in  glorious sunshine.

The New York hotel on the banks of the river Meuse is really eye catching. Its towers and stripy blinds immediately caught my eye. I made a bee line for the deckchairs outside, enjoyed a drink and sketched the exterior. I liked the contrast between old and new and drew the neighbouring high rise buildings. Hiding behind my shades I sketched other visitors lounging in deckchairs.  Had a peek inside and saw old posters, maps and impressive Art Nouveau decoration. There are many reminders of an era of travel when europeans departed from this point and travelled to New York.
