Great to be included as a guest blogger on the Urban sketchers website. I’ve included a few of my Brighton drawings.
I was disappointed on Friday as the applications for the Royal Academy Summer exhibition had sold out before the deadline. The system has changed over the past couple of years and I should have looked into it sooner. So . . . despite photographing my work before the deadline, I couldn’t submit my work. Decided to go drawing in Brighton to get my mind off things. Weather wasn’t good and I was walking around to find somewhere indoors that caught my eye. I peeked into the window of ‘Franco’s barbers’ and thought the interior looked interesting. I arched my head around the door and asked Franco, the owner if it would be OK to sketch. Very friendly so I sat down and did a number of drawings. Here are a few. There was a steady flow of customers most of whom appeared to be regulars. Beards fashionable and enjoyed the conversation. I really liked the retro feel of the interior with the library wall paper above the picture rail, stags heads on the wall, old photographs and posters as well as the different hair products old and new.
More Brighton drawings to follow . . .
I will be taking part in the Brighton Art Fair this year. I’ll be showing a selection of prints at the St Annes gallery stand 65 alongside paintings by Jo Lamb and Tom Benjamin. The exhibition runs from the 19th until 22nd September. Please come along if you can!
It’s that time of year again. The Brighton festival seems to come around so quickly! The Brighton Open Houses runs for the four weekends in May starting on Saturday (4th May). I’ll be showing a selection of prints and cards at The Gloobaah House which is part of the Dyke Road Trail. In addition to my work, there will be paintings, textiles, ceramics, photography and wire work by other local artists. Feel free to visit, browse the art and there will also be refreshments and cake to tempt you!

I’m taking part again this year in the Artist Open Houses in Brighton. I will be showing prints at the Gloobaah House, 22a The Drove, BN1 5AF. It’s part of the Dyke Road Trail so there are also lots of other houses nearby to visit, view art, drink tea and eat cake! The house will be open every weekend in May (5th -27th). Hope to see you there!
